PVH NEWSHOOE BARN. Plymouth City Council have, over the last year, variously said 'there was an interested serious buyer'. Then he/she pulled out. After another few months there was another serious buyer who could solve the access problems. After a few months they were 'dotting the I's and crossing the T's,' When still nothing happened they were 'waiting for local councillors to get in touch'. When questioned the local councilors 'would get back to us'. A phrase, I regret to suggest, seems drawn from the same stable as 'The cheque is in the post" and "I'll just be a minute." In August we were told that a prospective buyer had not convinced the Council that their intentions would meet the conditions of redevelopment and negotiations had ceased. The plan is now to leave the Barn until Spring 2009 when the Lake Stores will be demolished to provide access on the East side. PVH goes from strength to strength. Membership is over 100 and a healthy bank balance of over £1,000 confirming our decision to make Friends of Hooe Barn into a more social and heritage orientated society. A very interesting programme of events has been planned (see below), we have published our Calendar for 2009 and a full colour walk booklet that describes easy walks around the Hooe, Jennycliff, Mount Batten and Turnchapel areas. A First for members. The newsletter is now available in full colour as a pdf file for members who have eMail. Members who would like to receive this please make sure your eMail address is up to date by contacting Krystyna Skinner 01752 405488 This site updated September 2008 |
